WHEN SHOULD I SEEK COUNSELLING?
It’s normal for there to be hiccups in life. Some of us would rather figure it out on our own or seek the help of loved ones. And some of us would benefit from professional help.
If you are wondering what to go to counselling for or when, here are a few questions that might help you gain insight as to how professional help would support you with:
Have you lost some or all of the joy you used to experience?
Are you hyper-critical and unable to show yourself or others compassion?
Do you feel anxious or overwhelmed with work, family, and social life?
Are you struggling to break generational patterns and live a life that aligns with your values?
Are you struggling with your sense of self, wondering who you are, what your purpose is, and what the reason for living is?
Are you experiencing disconnections in relationships and with yourself?
Do you find yourself dissociating when things get tough?
Are you noticing triggers that have come up that might be a result of your childhood?
Are you burnout from the demands of work and family and wondering where there is space for you to simply “be weak'“?
Does it seem like you are being pushed and pulled in several directions by others, wanting them to “let you live”?
Are you suffering with a deep sense of loneliness and disconnect, wondering “is there more to life than this”?
We don’t realize that our presenting concerns are a result of deeper lying issues. It could be that we are having communication issues with our partners or trouble making a career choice. It may not seem related, but neuroscience research has found that many of the problems we have today are correspond to our childhood upbringing. It only makes sense that our whole being has been shaped by our formative years and experiences throughout our lives.
